Founded by the eponymous designer in the late 1980s, it remains one of the most popular brands today. Martin Margiela was one of the first designers to actively engage in upcycling and to dedicate himself to a more sustainable approach to fashion. Margiela treated garments like a surgeon: he carefully dissected them and then reassembled them in unexpected and completely original ways.
